How to Bring Eye Check up Closer to the People

Eye Check up in the Philippines is now being promoted by conducting low-priced consultations among the health centers nationwide. This is to bring eye care closer to the people.

Most Filipinos are hesitant when it comes to having an eye consultation because of its high cost. But nowadays, many optical clinics are offering services for different eye sight problems at very affordable fees.

Because many Filipinos believed that eye check up is costly, they tend to buy a pair of eyeglasses instead. They think that eyeglasses can correct their eye problems. But in reality, they need advice from an ophthalmologist. That perception can hinder them from preventing the further effect of their eye sight. They should consult with a sound doctor as early as possible because some eye condition can lead to blindness if not treated early.

We have to give importance to eye check up and should not just rely on staffs of any eye wear consultation. I am not against on free consultation; I’m just pointing out that the person who will give the consultation must be a professional ophthalmologist so that the consultation will be very reliable and trusted. The product must not always be the priority bur to reach out to the people with eye problems instead. If those clinics will care not only for their product sales, but also for meeting a very essential service that will benefit their customers. With that kind of mindset, the customer will be loyal to that clinic not just because of the product they offer but because of their services as well.

That is why many clinics are having eye problems awareness campaigns and offering affordable consultation fees to help people improve their sight and bring eye care much closer to those who need it but does not have enough resources to afford the high cost of eye consultation.
An eye check up is one thing, but the treatment is another thing. The cause of the problem will be pointed out and the advisable solution to treat it will be discussed and it is the patient’s choice to undergo in that treatment or have it later. There are available health care assistance programs that can help patients to afford highly expensive treatments.

These were just some the actions taken by different optical clinics, health care organizations, NGOs and hospital to ensure that many, especially those with severe eye problems can be reached out and treated and restore good eye sight.

We should give thanks for those organizations that are dedicated to give low cost eye check up and consultations. I hope they can help more Filipinos that are suffering from eye problems.

How to prepare for an Eye Check up

Have you ever experienced being blind for a moment? What do you feel when you can’t even see anything? Or have you been in a very dark place wherein you can’t see because of the darkness?

Your eyes are the light of your body, you can’t move freely if your eyes are blinded or if you are gradually losing your sight. That is why; an eye check up is a must. People are afraid of having their eyes checked, but you don’t have to worry because here are some tips on how to prepare for an eye checkup.

Evaluate yourself

Regular eye checkup must be done every 2 years for people having an age of 18 to 60 years old. Normally, a person with hereditary eye problems needs to have an eye examination even before the child reaches 18 years old. The family needs to be conscious about their children if they have acquired the family’s eye disease. Those persons with diabetes, high-blood pressure, persons with a visually demanding occupation, and persons with eye injuries or surgery need to have a frequent eye checkup.

You have to evaluate yourself if you are having an eye problem mow. If so, tell the ophthalmologist about it. You can also tell if you have had a previous eye injury or an operation.

Check your eyewear

Sometimes, we become worried about our vision because our eyewear is having defects or wearing out over the past years. Or maybe, it is not your eyewear but your vision that is starting to degrade and your eyewear needs to be upgraded.

This is sometimes confusing because you may think that your eyewear became worn out, or it is your vision that is really becoming worst that it needs an eye checkup. You also need to bring them during your eye exam so that your doctor can prescribe the right eyewear for you. And during your eye exam, you have to remove them so that the results will be accurate.

List your concern

You have to prepare a list of your concerns regarding your eye checkup. Ask all the questions regarding your eye condition, the problems you are experiencing with your sight, and all the possible concerns you have in mind with your eyes. You must stay focused and relax during the checkup. You can also bring someone with you to the optical clinic to assist you if you are having difficulty with your vision.

I hope these simple tips helped. Do not be afraid of having an eye exam. Take care of your eyes and avoid eye straining activities or too much exposure to television and radiation.

Sunglasses for Sale Philippines

Sunglasses for Sale Philippines is the most used tagline for selling eyewear and sunglasses here in the Philippines. Especially this past summer vacation, this line became the most advertised commercial tag line. But what really are sunglasses? Let us discover how this optical eyewear started.

According to Wikipedia, sunglasses or sun glasses are protective eyewear that prevents the bright sunlight from damaging the eyes. With it, the eyes will not experience discomfort due to high energy visible light and from ultraviolet radiation. It can also be used for persons who have just undergone an eye operation to protect the eyes from dust.

Sunglasses are often used during summer, not just for eye protection, but also for the fashion accessory. That fancy eyewear can be seen especially on beach and resorts. Men and women wear those to improve their appearance and be more attractive.

The development of sunglasses can be dated prehistorically when the Inuit people wore flattened ivory with narrow slits to block the harmful rays from the sun. The flattened ivories are said to be a resemblance of the modern day sunglasses.

Meanwhile, in the 12th century China, ancient documents described that the judges from the courts used crystal sunglasses to conceal their expressions while questioning witnesses.

There are many other developments with the sunglasses, but we will jump in time until we reach the early 1920s. During this period, the popularity of sunglasses started to increase as the stars in the movies uses them to avoid being recognized by their fans. Later those years, the mass production of sunglasses reached 20 million.

Today, there are many optical chains that offer several types of sunglasses. Polarized sunglasses, 3D sunglasses, and many other became more popular compared to the classic designed sunglasses. Almost every industry incorporates sunglasses, from sports, movies, and even fashion industries uses sunglasses.

The Evolution of Eyeglasses

Have you ever asked yourself when and where did eyewear, or eyeglasses frame came from? What would happen if they were not invented? What would it be like if we were not able to see text and images clearly?

The early history of glasses as an instrument in magnification is not really known, but according to research, it is believed that it started in the year 1000 and 1250. It is between these years that an English Franciscan Friar Roger Bacon, in his 1268 writing that letters could be seen larger when viewed under the half a sphere glass. He noted that it would be helpful in assisting persons with low or weak vision, especially, the elderly one.

According to the earliest recorded evidence, eyeglasses first appeared in Italy around the year 1286. It is formed from two primitive crystal stones (convex shaped glasses). It has frames and a handle on each glass. And they were connected together with a rivet on their end. The monks and scholars were the primary users of the invention. But the inventor wanted to keep the glasses as a secret and aims to use it as a source of income instead. The monks said that the earliest source of its documentation as they had mentioned that somebody invented a great art of making eyeglasses for providing good vision.

The major factor that made the eyeglasses and eyeglasses frame as an important tool is the invention of the printing press during 1452. The availability of printed media such as books and the improving rate of literacy paved the way in making the eyeglasses known.

And from there, the evolution and enhancement of the eyeglasses continued until the 20th century. Each century has its own essential discovery in improving the designs and quality of glasses.

The 17th Century’s greatest contribution to the betterment of eyeglasses was the invention of the temple pieces as an anchor of the glasses to the ears. And it was advertised in public during 1728. Also, Benjamin Franklin invented the bifocals.

Some other major contributions of this century include the Martin Margins, invented by Benjamin Martin. The Wig Spectacles, the eyeglasses that have longer temple pieces, specifically created for men who wear wigs. And lastly, the Scissors Spectacles, invented for those men who do not wish to wear their eyeglasses.

The 18th Century continued to develop other designs, but it ended with fewer or lesser designs in manufacturing. This is the era wherein the eyeglasses are viewed as an indicator of old age and infirmity. Because of that, the Lorgnette was invented in 1800. These eyeglasses have a long and single handle. This point of view of people regarding eyeglasses made it less popular and worn only when needed.  Meanwhile, while the lorgnettes became popular, another inventor created a type of glasses that allowed it to be folded. It was a French manufacturer that introduces it during 1830.

The 19th Century viewed the eyeglass as an industry, which has manufacturing and distribution networks. The celebrities greatly influenced the rapid change in styles. Plastics were also introduced as a material for eyeglass making. Another contribution of this century was the invention of Pince-nez, an eyeglass without temples. Made popular by the U.S.  Presidents Teddy Roosevelt and Calvin Coolidge. A Hollywood actor made the temple spectacles as a fashion craze during his time. Also, the start of the sunglasses’ popularity is made possible by Sir William Crookes in 1913. It is capable of absorbing ultraviolet and infrared light. It was also used by pilots during World War II.
